A Top Dermatology PA-C’s Recommended Treatments For Winter

There's a reason why winter is such a busy time for med spas and dermatology clinics. We spoke with dermatology PA-C, Molly Orden, about her favorite treatments for the season and why she prefers to reserve more intensive treatments for the winter (and when she’ll make an exception for patients in the summer months).

“I basically take care of every non-surgical treatment that somebody could want—wrinkle reducers, fillers, lasers, microneedling, chemical peels, you name it! I do and I love it!” - Molly Orden, PA-C

Do You Recommend Your Patients Schedule Their More Intensive Treatments During Winter (Colder) Versus Spring (Warmer) Months And Why?

“Absolutely! I love to do more intense chemical peels and lasers during the cooler months like fall and winter as there's less sun, less heat, and there's more time for you to heal and stay away from the elements. But that’s not to say that I won’t do it in the spring or summer. If somebody is really good about sun protection and I know that or if they have an event I will do it. For instance, I have some brides in the summer and a month before we’ll do a BBL & Moxi Treatment. I do go through strict sun protection protocols with them and as a provider, if you trust that your patient will follow it, then these things can technically be done year round and it works out really well! Although for the majority of people, I do tend to stick to fall and winter. That’s typically when people would want to do those treatments.”

What Are Your Favorite Treatments You Recommend To Your Patients During The Winter Versus Spring Or Summer Months?

“In the winter, I love to do more skin-based treatments like lasers, BBL & Moxi, microneedling radiofrequency, CO2 laser, microneedling with PR, chemical peels like the VI Peel or like a triple bright peel TCA. I’m doing those treatments much more frequently in the fall and winter."

In the summer months, we’re maintaining and enhancing the skin with lighter treatments and a great skincare regimen in addition to botox and fillers.

"In the summer months, we’re maintaining and enhancing the skin with lighter treatments and a great skincare regimen in addition to botox (year round), and fillers (year round). In the spring and summer though we will do a lot of light peels which have no downtime. A light peel would be a 40% mandelic acid peel or a light to medium depth peel like a Jessner peel will give you no-downtime, nice and glowy skin. Those are great one week before a wedding. We also do a lot of Aquagold facials to make the skin nice and glowy.”

“I definitely do a lot of fillers in the summer with my patients. People are getting ready for summer trips and this and that and they want to look and feel their best. So while I do fillers year round, I definitely see an uptick in people getting their filler refreshed in the spring and summer months.”
